Selection of Relevant Bacterial Strains for Novel Therapeutic Testing: a Guidance Document for Priority Cystic Fibrosis Lung Pathogens

چکیده
Abstract Purpose of Review People with cystic fibrosis (CF) suffer chronic lung infections a range antimicrobial-resistant bacterial pathogens. There is an urgent need for researchers to develop novel anti-infectives treat these problematic infections, but how can we select strains which are relevant robust testing and comparative research? Recent Findings Pseudomonas aeruginosa , Burkholderia cepacia complex gladioli Mycobacterium abscessus complex, Staphylococcus aureus, Haemophilus influenza, several multidrug-resistant Gram-negative species were selected as key CF that urgently require new therapeutics. Reference isolates strain panels identified, summary the known genotypic diversity each pathogen was provided. Summary Here, summarise current resources available priority pathogens highlight systematic selection criteria use in therapeutic testing.

Bacterial activity in cystic fibrosis lung infections
BACKGROUND Chronic lung infections are the primary cause of morbidity and mortality in Cystic Fibrosis (CF) patients. Recent molecular biological based studies have identified a surprisingly wide range of hitherto unreported bacterial species in the lungs of CF patients. The aim of this study was to determine whether the species present were active and, as such, worthy of further investigation ...
متن کاملSweat testing for cystic fibrosis
Screening of sweat chloride in newborn infants with the Orion Skin Chloride Measuring System and incorporating some procedural innovations is described. The results indicate that while diagnostic screening for cystic fibrosis can be readily undertaken, the test with the chloride ionselective electrode is best left at least to the second day of life or later because of insufficient sweating in v...

متن کاملPulmonary bacterial pathogens in cystic fibrosis patients and antibiotic therapy: a tool for the health workers
Cystic fibrosis is the most common and best known genetic disease involving a defect in transepithelial Cl- transport by mutations in the CF gene on chromosome 7, which codes for the cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator protein (CFTR). The most serious symptoms are observed in the lungs, augmenting the risk of bacterial infection. The objective of this review was to describe the ...
متن کاملTransmissible strains of Pseudomonas aeruginosa in cystic fibrosis lung infections.
Pseudomonas aeruginosa chronic lung infections are the major cause of morbidity and mortality associated with cystic fibrosis. For many years, the consensus was that cystic fibrosis patients acquire P. aeruginosa from the environment, and hence harbour their own individual clones. However, in the past 15 yrs the emergence of transmissible strains, in some cases associated with greater morbidity...
